When you’re first starting to work from home, you’re excited to set up your home office and dig in. When setting up that home office, however, one of two things can happen. You’ll either vastly underestimate what you need to get up and running or you’ll overestimate and end up with stuff you don’t need and will never use again or the first time for that matter.

Either way, you can easily find yourself in a bit of a struggle to strike a balance between the two. In this article, you’ll find a few of the must-have items you’ll need to successfully work from home.

A Computer

Very few, if any, small business owners can do their work from home without a reliable computer. It’s important to do your research to determine the best computer to meet your needs. Decide whether a desktop is better for you or if you’re going to be on the go, maybe a portable laptop would be better.

It’s also important to have a high-quality, reliable internet connection as well because there’s not much more frustrating than being in the middle of working and the internet going out.

A Monitor

You’ll certainly need a monitor with a desktop, but for some people working on a laptop, a monitor is beneficial as well. Plugging a monitor into your laptop can be easier on your neck as well. Depending on the type of work you’re doing, you might even consider getting dual monitors to get more work done, faster.

High-Quality Software

Whether it’s business payment software, word processing software, or something else, you want it to be high quality and something you can depend on. Make a list of the software you need for your home office, then get it before you start your first day of work to be prepared and ready to go.

A Desk

Ideally, you’ll have plenty of space for a traditional desk, since it helps you keep all your stuff organized and in one place. If not, you can make a counter or any other flat surface in your home a workstation, at least until you can get something better and more permanent.

A Good Office Chair

Perhaps one of the most important things on your home office must-have list is a good quality office chair. You’ll probably be spending a lot of hours in that chair so you want it to be as comfortable as possible, without being so comfortable that you fall asleep in it and waste your whole workday. Ergonomics and comfort are what you should look for when testing out which is the best chair for you.

A Traditional Landline

While using your cell phone might be tempting, it’s better to have a landline dedicated to your business. You don’t need dropped calls in the middle of an important meeting, so consider this for sure.

File Cabinet

No one wants important papers stuffed into desk drawers, on bookshelves, or taking up space on their desk. That’s why you should purchase a file cabinet to keep everything in. Not only is it way more organized, but also you can lock it so that private stuff is kept private. It’s also a great place to keep contracts and other stuff separated so that if you need them they can be found quickly and efficiently.

These are just a few of the must-haves you’ll need when starting your business at home and setting up your home office. Remember, make a list, check it twice, and you’ll soon be ready to get started in an efficient and comfortable manner.
