When You Surrender and Let Go, the New and Exciting Can Come In

Welcome to a new month!

This month’s theme is about surrendering. I don’t know about you, but my business has not been the same since mid-March when the pandemic took shape. Customers have not been buying training services as much as they used to. The way in which we work has changed. Now, we are working remotely from home, thus affecting our budgets. Some of the clients I have worked with previously do not even have the slightest direction where to go, which makes it hard to plan.

So, what is one to do?

The answer is to “Surrender” to it all. I want to caution you that surrendering does not mean you give up and do nothing. It means to let go of the control. To keep going to a dry well and expecting water to come forth is a bit crazy, isn’t it?

Now is the time to let go and create something new!

Wikipedia defines surrendering as this:

An unconditional surrender is a surrender in which no guarantees are given to the surrendering party. In modern times, unconditional surrenders most often include guarantees provided by international law.

I find that definition to be a bit bland. Surrendering is much more than that. It means giving up what you were doing and letting it all go. You let go to give room for the new to come in.

I believe surrendering is the stage we are truly in right now. That the way we have been doing business, life, medicine, environmental change, education, social service is in need of an overhaul.

It is funny; I am in Toronto, Canada, but when I talk to my friend in Muncie, Indiana, the same social problems exist there as they do here.

I think now is the time to surrender. To let go of the old, to let go of what is not working in your life or business and create from nothing.

This notion of surrendering or letting go can be scary. To some, you may perceive it as meaning that you have failed. I assure you to no end, that in this current marketplace and with what is going on around us, you did not fail.

Several years ago, I took a personal development course one weekend called, “The Landmark Forum.” In this course, the leader discussed this notion of when what you have had is lost. We fear loss, don’t we? We fear change, we fear having nothing. But here is what I really want to get across to you today. Loss, change, and having nothing are magical things that happen.

Why is that you ask!

How can that be?

Have you not heard of when someone has lost everything, they then have the freedom to do what they really love? That they had nothing left to lose, so they began to go after their dreams. Maybe the dream is to travel to another country and teach. Or to open a tour company taking men fishing and having a men’s healing weekend.

Or maybe, you want to cook mom’s soup recipe, or work with youth in your community. When you surrender, you allow for the new to come in.

I remember doing a big de-clutter project at home a few years ago. I recycled, donated and threw out so much, to allow room for the new to come in.

I believe that is what we may be called to do right now.

Trust the process of life, the ebbs and flows and that if things aren’t working in your business or life, maybe let go, (for now, you can always come back) and begin to create something new, something you are passionate about.

Create from your heart and dreams and see what unfolds.

A painter sees the painting first in his or her mind before he puts one drop of paint on the canvas.

This month, create your masterpiece, be it your life, work, or business!
