The Beginner’s Guide to Making Money at Home

Want to make a little extra cash from home? There are some simple and effective ways in which you can top up your bank balance without leaving your own four walls. Some of these are easier than others, but if you put in the time, they can be a great way to top up your bank balance.

Online surveys

If you have some spare time in the day, filling in a few surveys is a simple way to make money. You can earn anywhere from 50p to £10 per survey. Bear in mind that the more you get paid, the longer and more in depth the survey will be. If you fancy passing some time when your partner is watching their favorite show on TV, you can complete quite a few in what might otherwise be “dead time”.

Don’t worry about answering things you don’t have a clue about. When you sign up to a survey provider, you will complete a few questions for them to get an understanding of the type of surveys to send you. For example, do you have any pets, are you a smoker, do you own your own home or do you drive? All of these sorts of things will help them to send you relevant questions — and you just need to respond with your honest opinion.

If you’re unsure about which survey provider to sign up to first, YouGov is a good place to start.

Affiliate marketing

If you already have a good online presence and a strong following on social media — or you have a blog — then affiliate marketing can be an easy step for you. Sign up to Awin network as a publisher, view the listings and find something you think your followers, friends and family would be interested in, and simply share the affiliate link. If they make a purchase through the link, you’ll earn a commission. As a note, you should remember to always disclose when a link is an affiliate one. Be up front and honest at all times.

Online selling

Selling things online has never been easier. Simply take high-quality photos of your products and upload them to any selling sites — you can choose from eBay, Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, and many more. This can be unwanted items that you wish to get rid of, or creative crafts that you’ve made and want to sell. The only thing you’ll need to do is package them up and take them to the Post Office.

Become a writer

Want a career rather than an at-home side hustle? If you’re serious (and seriously good), then it might be time to take the plunge and become a writer.

Writing a book may seem like a challenge, but it’s something so many of us aspire to do. So why not take the plunge? You could:

  • Develop that story you’ve always wanted to tell
  • Pass on your tips and insight from your profession
  • Gather together your amazing family recipes

You don’t need to go to a publisher either. Thanks to Amazon Kindle, you can now self publish and earn 70% of the sale.
