Traveling in an RV and exploring the country sounds like a dream, however, you need to eventually make money to support this lifestyle. There are several ways you can go about making this a reality, each requiring different skill sets and time commitments. You can also use your experience traveling in an RV to increase your income. Here are four ways to make money for those who dream of traveling full time in an RV.
Work Online Jobs
There are quite a few online jobs available for people who are interested in working remotely. These vary from all types of different industries and can be things like being a virtual assistant, customer support or performing data entry. Some jobs might require more specialized skills like software engineering or IT than others. If you have a college degree you can always try finding a remote job based on what you studied. If you’re still working your current job and haven’t started traveling yet, it’s always worth asking if you can transition to a full-time remote position. While some companies might not completely agree due to certain tax implications, there are other companies who might be more open to it.
Make Money Blogging
Lindsey Maxwell, Co-Founder of Where You Make It, says blogging has taken off in recent years so it’s a little bit more difficult to get into that space now. The best way to make blogging work is to do affiliate marketing. You can market anything from campgrounds to credit cards and take a fee for the companies or brands that you are marketing for. You can always write articles about your experiences when it comes to RVing and include links in the articles to companies who pay you to refer customers to them. Some companies will pay more than others, so do your research for which things to blog about to earn more money.
Work Local Jobs
If you have any special skills or just have free time in general, then working local jobs or odd jobs is a great way to earn some extra money. Maxwell mentions this is a little bit less stable but can often provide enough money to buy fuel and put food on the table. It doesn’t pay as much as say working remotely and traveling. If you are worried more about freedom and are fine with making just enough to get by this is a great way to experience many different types of jobs. If you’re staying in one specific place for long periods of time, it might be worth attempting to find a stable local job.
Become a Freelance Writer
You can always become a freelance writer and get paid by websites to write articles based on your expertise. If you live in an RV, you might have experiences you can write about that very few other people can. It doesn’t necessarily mean you only have to write about topics in the RV niche; you can always write about other things based on your past jobs too. As you gain more experience writing and build a larger portfolio, the amount of money you charge can increase. A lot of people make a full-time living writing; the key here is to focus on a specific niche. It’s better to be seen as the master of one specific topic than to be seen as a jack of all trades when it comes to freelance writing.
